Becoming a bus driver is easier than you think

Up to 20 days
Theory training

You’ll enjoy access to the Driving Test Success Anytime platform, giving you the flexibility to study your 'Theory' modules at your own pace. When you're ready, you can take the tests at one of our in-house theory testing centres.

5 days in total
On the road

You’ll start on-road training and tests, along with classes in ‘defensive driving,’ all while preparing to drive in service with passengers.

12 days in total
In the classroom

You’ll take part in classes like disability awareness and vehicle walk-around checks, giving you all the knowledge and skills you need to become a successful National Express driver.

5 days in total
At your depot

Once you’re on the road, you’ll have regular check-ins and reviews during your first year, along with annual refreshers on key topics and remedial training if needed.

Your first journey

You’ll meet your depot team, get familiar with the processes and policies, and receive training on the vehicles and routes you'll be driving, before heading out with a Role Model driver.
